Good piece, though dispiriting. One thing that I find especially upsetting is that right now, there's a discharge petition circulating in the House that would end mid-decade gerrymandering. It's obviously a narrow fix, but if every Democrat supported it, that would be enough to get it passed.

As far as I know, not a single Dem has signed that petition.

Of course they haven’t.

you write as if the business of the state and the mpact on the population would be comparable whichever party wins. This is clearly rubbish. The Democrats will not continue to destroy the environment, consumer protection, and the economy; they will restore most of the protections that had been built over the past 50 years. And they are likely to do it honestly rather than supporting Trump's extreme corruption. They will close tax loopholes and restore at least the 2016 tax rates that Trump has been cutting and cutting. Taxes were not oppressive in 2016.

They will not do any of those things because Trump will veto them.

In my experience talking to Democratic voters in their neighborhoods is that they have no interest in the Republicans, but they don’t see any progress from their own party, either.

Could a Democrat win in 2028? Yes. Would they be willing to take sweeping action to create a new, more equitable country? The jury is still very, very out on that.

If democrats win one or both chambers of congress in November, they won’t be able to implement any broad vision of anything. They will only be able to stymie and investigate trump and his merry band of criminals. So democrats don’t need some “grand vision” to convince voters, because they won’t be able to accomplish anything toward it.

I cannot comprehend how utterly bankrupt your politics are. Australian politics is captured by vested interests in the same way as most ‘western democracies’ are but yours are so compromised it is astounding.

Badly in need of a de-Baathification process, every current politician and elected, every judge, all of them, thrown out of office and the DNC/RNC cabals banned
