I want to cry. We are already allowing women to die because of what they have done via Roe/Dobbs. Books being banned, LGBTQ being bullied and their rights stripped. I talk w friends and family and get disheartened by the number who are disconnected and have pulled away from being involved.

I don’t know the answer but if anyone discovers one please sign me up. I’m not ready to give up the fight and I’m sure as hell never going to obey!!!

Chilling, but true. For all of us who hoped we would have done the "right" thing in the 1930s, we now see in real time that those choices are hard to discern. A number of my family left Austria-Hungary for Canada in time, and eventually a few of those came to the US. Other family members took too long to leave. Some days, I think about Canada myself. But I am stubborn and hope we can still find a way together, to stand and fight effectively.

Reed:….this was terrific and very moving and so relatable to what we are going through in this country now. We need the help of many to fight back…we are facing a formidable enemy that has whittled away at Democratic norms for innumerable years. We will need the help of those of great wealth who can fight the daily right wing media battle. We need people like Reed Galen who understand how horrific it has become in American. We need to organize intelligently and forcefully to start to tear down & compete with the right wing media machine and get our messages out clearly / strongly to those in the country who have fallen pray to this terror called MAGA & it’s horrific leader and those who surround him hoping to jump on the bandwagon of power & wealth. Please read this article in Dame Magazine by Karl Bode…https://www.damemagazine.com/2025/01/02/americas-right-wing-propaganda-problem-might-be-terminal/. It supports what Reed is warning us about and I elicits what needs to be done…no small task I might add.

I have thought about this for a few days. Well, I am trying to be patient, but it is difficult. My frustration is that so many just don't see the history of the 1920s, 1930's and 1940's that resembles what we now face as a nation. Over the years there have been many novels, dramas, and histories that show the rise and inhumanity of fascism and the horrors of WWII and what led up to the horror. You would think everyone would "get it." These just weren't stories!!! However, I am going to try to be patient and keep up the resistance/fight where it will do the best.

You have articulated my fear: that we will naively go on with life as usual, believing “it can’t happen here.” First, history rejects that notion. Second, “it” is already happening. I struggle to figure out how I can do more than simply speak up, but I do believe that being part of a larger organization can increase our impact. I have decided to volunteer for our local Democratic Party, working on upcoming elections and figuring out how to be more effective in getting our message out.
