Strong article this evening,Reed, and as a woman who started paying attention to Politics in 1969 when I was protesting the Vietnam War. Again in 1970, fighting for the 18 year old Vote.1971 thur 1974 for Women's Rights, I know of what I speak. I've never been or seen what's happening in our Country today, only what I've studied in books and autobiographies. Your doing good work here, Thank You, and will reStack ASAP 💯👍
glad to see this kind of reorientation across writers I follow. encouraging people not to indulge in the disgust and fear the Cabinet appointments naturally generate, both because it's what MAGA wants and it burns up energy and sends us down emotional rabbit holes. we gotta conserve energy and focus. as you say, the work is foundational now and must be approached not like a political campaign but a long-term life work. it's gotta be much deeper and truer than motivating people to vote on a particular day for a particular person. it's sort of a values revolution, a return to community and connection. this is work we can commit to.
I have read a lot of Substacks & watched a lot of you tube videos since Trump won the election & people trying to figure out what happened? I have an idea I am not seeing people addressing it. When POTUS Joe Biden had 1 bad night at the debate with Trump because he was sick, Trump Gish galloped him & he was having a hard time with his stutter. The media handwringing & omg what's wrong with him immediately started. Nancy Pelosi & other Democrats did the same instead of standing up for & defending POTUS. All of a sudden after 3.5 years of successes, confidence in our POTUS had hit rock bottom because of 1 bad night. POTUS was pressured to step down after the primary elections had concluded & he was elected the Democratic Party nominee by the people. When he nominated VP Harris to replace him as the Democratic Nominee for POTUS & the states gave VP Harris their primary electors over the next week making her the new Candidate & this is where the problems began. Some Democratic Party & Independent party voters were turned off by it. If the Democratic National Convention would have been ran as open & a opportunity for the states electors to vote & choose another candidate for potus/vp I think the election would have turned out much differently. Instead, people felt VP Harris was chosen & installed as the new candidate by 1 man to replace him, the electorate didn't like it. Some chose to not vote & it was enough to get Trump elected..
I believe that was just what the problem was. I was not happy with Nancy and what did the movie stars have to get in on the decisions. They should have been quite for a few weeks, at least. Biden has been best we have had since Johnson and his ''War on Poverty''. I am a Dem and always research every one running for office. I have voted for REp. but never again unless they run some one better than Mitch Mc Connel.
You helped to build this disaster — a fascist GOP. I left the GOP when it joined with the evangelists to elect Reagan — you could see it coming then. And it did.
And now you're upset because the Ds don't offer the policy and messaging you think it should?
There's probably a word for that kind of ego, but nothing but foul language comes to mind.
You built it. Your party broke this country. It ended democracy.
I'm unsubscribing, in case you didn't guess. But this required more than just that.
And what was your strategy when you got these yahoos elected as GOP? What was your goal? How did that all work out for you?
If we become the enemy to win, then all we’ve done is increase the number of the enemy.
Ds are not the problem, Reed. The misogynistic, homophobic bigots who just elected one of their own are. Those bigots were created and nurtured by a collaboration of the gop and evangelicals — there’s your winning by addition strategy! How’s that looking to you now?
There was voter suppression, certainly, but Democratic voters across all demographics (other than Black women and to a lesser extent, Black men) said they didn't like either candidate.
There is no actual evidence that votes weren't counted.
"Our press is very corrupt, almost as corrupt as our elections.” Trump just stated this. He admits that our elections are a fraud and he practically admits that he stole the election. WOW
Bravo! I want my marching orders! I am tired of doing the same thing for 10 years and not feeling the Dems are moving forward...getting it..figuring it out how to fight back. it feels like being in a time warp... We work hard and Kamala did a good job of rallying "the troops"..but I think the women/black thing was a big issue on top of not getting inside the hearts and souls of many of our voters. One thing I need you to clarify...who are the elites exactly to you? It's a derogatory term and several people in my circle take offense at it, i.e., must we dumb down in order to win is often their response. Keep it coming!!!! xxG

I saw friends jump too quickly against Biden, and it was heartbreaking to see other Dems leave him. Especially when trump
Always has bad nights, no one left him. The media is a huge problem too.

I think you have a lot of nerve, to be honest.

Go to hell.
Lois subscribes to the "addition by subtraction" theory of political campaigns, I guess.
And what was your strategy when you got these yahoos elected as GOP? What was your goal? How did that all work out for you?

53% of white female voters chose Donald Trump.
And I thought you were leaving.
I’m with you Lois
I understand your frustration and anger, but it's not Reed that has to be persuaded by Democratic messaging and policies...it's voters.
When millions of Democratic voters stay home that's an issue with our branding and messaging.
Are we sure voters stayed home? What about the fires in ballot boxes, the bomb threats, the voters who say there votes weren’t counted.?I’m suspicion
There was voter suppression, certainly, but Democratic voters across all demographics (other than Black women and to a lesser extent, Black men) said they didn't like either candidate.

Reed, as always, I am glad you are HERE. Always points to pounder. Good work. All take care.
Best take I’ve seen yet.
Great speech!!
