Any person of decency has known since 2016 that what you said then is 100% accurate and true. And yet, millions of ordinary citizens and virtually all of the Republican elites as well as the donor and corporate and media class have sold their souls to a sick, depraved and now demented human being. I never dreamed this could happen, but it has. Our country has lost its way, and I am skeptical we can find our way back. I fear the poison may kill us even after he is gone. Those were great and prescient words in October of 2016.

It will take a long time and a lot of convincing before I will ever trust the Republican Party, by any name, ever again.

Doesn’t seem like all that much has changed since you first wrote it, and that is a sad commentary of the US today.

Thanks for the re-post-an excellent piece. We all need to redouble our efforts to chase Trump out of American political life. I am hopeful that Harris and Walz will prove more effective in that effort than Hillary was, given all the baggage she carried (some of it unfairly). Keep up your important work, Reed!

I didn’t realise this had first been written in 2016 until I saw Clinton‘s name. And then I realised just how prescient Reed Galen had been. My respect for him, which was already pretty high, went through the roof. Also, I think I’ll be getting him to buy my lottery tickets from now on.

Stunning the similarities between then and now. Had to remind myself that Hillary won the popular vote in 2016 and that the Harris/Walz ticket is so much stronger.

I remember feeling so abandoned- like the party just went completely insane. Eight years later and it’s so much worse!

I remain a political orphan, determined to do what it takes to cut the trump cancer out. You’d best believe a vote for Harris is a vote for sanity

This rang true in 2016, yet after eight more years of it I could make the case that this is the Republican Party.
