Part of today’s NeverTrump kabuki is to excitedly write that President Donald Trump’s polling numbers are bad and growing worse by the day. While it is true that Trump’s overall approval is below 50%, he’s never been popular in office with a majority of the country.
Before it might have concerned him. Now, in 2025, on a-near daily basis he continues to show (and tell) us that he doesn’t care. The Newsweek article linked above says, “A shift in his numbers could influence support from Republican lawmakers…”
In what universe does anyone with two brain cells, two eyes, and two ears believe that somehow GOP Members of Congress are fleeing from their leader? He keeps them in line with fear - of his base and Elon Musk’s money. That is not changing anytime soon.
Speaking of Trump’s base, a survey conducted by the University of Massachussets-Amherst earlier this month also shows his core supporters are not going far, even as they express ‘concerns’ over what they’re seeing.
First, the results show Trump’s favoribility at 44%-51%. For Trump, this is good news. Seven points underwater is solid for American presidents today. Joe Biden was at 33%-58% when he left office less than three months ago.
