I hope as you read this you’re either preparing a wonderful meal for family and friends or you’re catching up while watching a football game. The first Thanksgiving was held in 1621, according to the Internet (and if it’s there, it must be right.) The Continental Congress also proclaimed days of Thanksgiving during its time. Abraham Lincoln created the holiday in 1863 during the depths of the Civil War. President Franklin Roosevelt and Congress proclaimed the last Thursday of November as the Thanksgiving holiday in 1941.
I bring a little history to your holiday to remind us all that the moments when our country demonstrated its gratitude were not in the good times, but the hard times. We are in uncertain times, now. For all that though, I cannot be more appreciative of the thousands of people I’ve worked with and gotten to know over the past decade in these roiling seas. You are the strength, the backbone, and the heart of what makes America what she is and what she can be.
Thanks to all of you who’ve joined The Home Front as paid subscribers and the thousands of you who read and share my work with your friends and family. For now, let’s rest and reflect. The work we do will still be there next week.
I’ll leave you to it.
All my best to you and yours,
Reed
